Team 2: Archer

Welcome to the Crew of the Starship Enterprise! As newly minted Starfleet officers, the Federation is profoundly grateful for your service, you will rendezvous in the Transporter Room ("Captain, Transporter room will be down for maintenance after this morning! Just thought they should know!") to for deployment to several planetary locations. The planet, Aurora, that the Enterprise is orbiting has diverse needs, and each team will have the opportunity to do an assessment and make something using available tablets.

Since parallel problem-solving is called for, each team will engage in data collection, observation, and learning, then meet back at the end of the day to share what they have learned. Due to planetary atmospheric conditions, shuttle craft are not available and the Transporter will be down for routine maintenance until end of day. Fortunately, no hostiles have been detected in the area.

The Task
Students at Ardilla Colony are at the bottom of the ocean. As a result of their location, new instructors find it difficult to reach them except remotely. To facilitate communications, your team has been asked to find ways to assist new instructors to create presentations that can be shared with students remotely. Create a lesson that focuses on a key topic for multi-language learners and then reflect on your experience.

Develop a sample lesson that addresses English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and models the use of these technologies for other instructors.

Some of the apps you will find most useful include the following:
The Process
  1. Install Explain Everything (30-day trial version) for your particular device. If you are on an MS Surface
  2. Create a flipped lesson that incorporates key elements of a lesson on promoting language proficiency. At this level, the lesson will be viewed by students to learn something new.
  3. At the end, or throughout (it's up to you and your team), create a meta-lesson narrative that explains what you are doing, how you are doing it to the new instructors at Ardilla Colony.
  4. Your flipped lesson should be no more than 5-10 minutes long and be saved as a video.
  5. Save it to TrekShare Seesaw.
